Quick Winter Checks

  1. Confirm thermostat mode is HEAT and target setpoint is higher than room temp.
  2. Replace/clean the air filter; confirm supply/return vents are open.
  3. Inspect outdoor unit—clear snow/ice and debris; allow at least 2–3 feet of clearance.
  4. Listen during defrost—steam and a brief fan pause can be normal.
  5. Check breaker/fuse at the panel and disconnect (only if safe and you know how).

Call a Pro If You Notice…

  • Outdoor unit frozen solid for hours
  • Repeated breaker trips
  • Grinding/screeching noises
  • “Burning” smells or smoke
